About Thomas Case Jr. and Brazil Sugar Trade
Thomas Case Jr. runs Brazil Sugar Trade, the trade name of TACJR Participações Ltda., a company registered in Brazil. He is Brazilian-American and based in São Paulo. He represents a Brazilian sugar supplier: the supplier appoints him as its representative for each operation, he qualifies enquiries and introduces buyers, and buyers contract with and pay the supplier directly. He completed Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management program.

Why I do this
A while back I came within a hair of paying for a trial container of chicken feet, from a seller who had cloned a real exporter’s website down to the detail. I caught it in time. But if it almost got me, here on the ground and speaking the language, it will get a buyer an ocean away every time. So I built what I could not find that day: a transparent bridge, where you verify everything about me before you trust anything, and you pay the identified supplier directly, never me.
What I do, and what I don’t
I read every complete requirement myself. I qualify the buyer, structure the requirement (grade, volume, destination, shipment mode, timing and banking route) and put the buyer in front of the supplier. Offers and contracts are issued by the supplier, and once you are dealing with the supplier directly, loading, documents, inspection and shipment sit with them, under the contract you signed with them. I stay available for support the whole way.
- Brazil Sugar Trade never receives buyer funds.
- It is not the seller, owner of inventory, refinery, bank, inspector, warehouse, carrier, escrow agent or guarantor.
- The supplier is named at the introduction, before any contract.
Background
I am Brazilian-American and live in São Paulo (BRT, UTC−3). I work in English and Portuguese. I completed Harvard Business School’s Owner/President Management (OPM) program, an executive education program for company owners and principals. TACJR Participações Ltda., operating as Brazil Sugar Trade, is independently operated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Harvard University or Harvard Business School.
TACJR is my Brazilian holding company; its registered primary activity (CNAE) is management consulting, and Brazil Sugar Trade is the trade I run through it.
How the guides on this site are written
- Figures come from primary sources: government customs and tariff sites, the WTO and the World Bank’s WITS database, Brazil’s ComexStat export data, and the exchanges’ own rulebooks.
- Figures are dated, and every source is linked at the foot of the page.
- Each page is checked against its sources a second time before it is published, and the “Checked on” date shows when that was last done.
- Where I could not confirm something, the page says so instead of guessing.
Rules and tariffs change, sometimes by decree. If you find something out of date, send the source to trade@brazilsugartrade.com.
Check me before you trust me
- The company’s CNPJ is shown on request in the verification section of the homepage, and you can look it up at Receita Federal.
- My profile is on LinkedIn.
- Email comes only from the site’s own domain: trade@brazilsugartrade.com.
- You can book a Zoom call and see who you are talking to.
Before you deal with anyone, me included, read how to verify a Brazilian sugar supplier and how sugar fraud actually works.
