Importing Brazilian sugar into Togo: duty, permits and documents.
Togo took 316,712 tonnes of Brazil’s white sugar in 2025, its third-largest destination. We found no sugar-specific licence or quota, so imports are open under normal clearance. The customs duty on white sugar was 20% in the latest tariff data (2021), plus 1% statistical charge, the 0.5% ECOWAS levy and the 0.8% UEMOA solidarity levy. Lomé, Togo’s only deep-water port, is the entry point.

Clearance and inspection
In 2016 Togo ran destination inspection: importers filed an import intention with the inspection company before arrival, and clearance needed a verification certificate and an electronic cargo tracking note (BESC). Confirm which company runs the programme now.
